The sun shone bright and warm as St Giles Golf Club captain, Johnny Breeze, hosted his charity club day to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

Club members turned out in droves to support the competition which was held as a two-man Texas Scramble. Club Champion Alan Williams and his partner Johnny Smout took the honours with a scorching round of 59.4.

The runners-up was the pairing of Martin Stephens and Gareth Williams with 62.8, whilst third place was taken by Richard Blaney and John Pulfer.

This Saturday is the J.T. Hughes (Honda) April Medal with tee-off times at 9am and 1pm.

The JT Hughes (Honda) February Medal was played in very unseasonable warm weather and the scores on the St. Giles course matched the hot weather.

Andrew Dransfield carded the best score of the day with a scorching 41 points to take the top spot. Chris Halling finished three points adrift in second with an excellent 38, while birthday boy Daz Ballantyne finished third with 37.

This weekend is the next fixture of the Winter League with tee-offs on Saturday at 9am and 12.30pm, and 9.30am on Sunday.

It was a case of ‘keeping up with the Stephens’ in the weekend’s JT Hughes (Honda) January Stableford as brothers Gary and Martin topped a strong field in wet and windy conditions.

Big brother, Gary, came out on top with a cracking score of 38 points, narrowly defeating Martin who had to settle for the runners-up spot with 37. Third went to Daz Ballantyne who also carded 37 points but lost on a card playoff.

The third round of the Winter League was won impressively by Stuart Humphreys who compiled the best score of the year, 39 points, for a five-point victory from his nearest rival, Keith Dorrell, who finished in second with 34 points. Wayne Trigg completed the podium places with 30.

This weekend is the fourth round of the Winter League with tee-off times on Saturday at 9am and 12.30pm, and on Sunday at 9.30am.

Two large fields turned out for the first couple of fixtures in this year’s McMordie Winter League.

Week one was won by Andrew Dransfield who shot a solid 36 points to take the top prize. Alan Williams finished in the runners-up spot a point further back, with Anthony Faelli finishing in third after losing on a countback, also with 35 points.

Alan Porter took the spoils in week two after carding a steady 36 points for a narrow one-point victory. Daz Ballantyne finished in second place after beating the consistent Alan Williams in a card playoff after both posted 35 points.

This Saturday is the J.T. Hughes (Honda) January Full Stableford with tee-off times at 9am and at 12.30pm, whilst on Sunday at 9.30am is the third round of the Winter League.
